WATERSHEDS AND WATER QUALITY:

  • Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay
    This site provides information on the Chesapeake Bay Watershed as well as a description of their programs and projects. They are currently providing technical assistance to seven DC schools with regard to low impact development (LID) within the school grounds, through the Let It Rain program.
  • Chesapeake Bay Foundation
    The Chesapeake Bay Foundation loans out storm drain stencils for a fee of $25. Visit their Web site or click on the following links to download the storm drain stencil application form and instructions.
  • DC Department of Environment, Watershed Protection Division
    DDOE’s Watershed Protection Division offers expertise and resources related to stormwater management and sediment and erosion control. DDOE has an Environmental Education Resource Center, located at 51 N Street, NE, Room 5015, which contains a variety of curricula, audio-visual materials, kits, gardening tools, lab equipment, references, models, brochures, maps, posters, etc. Educators may browse, borrow materials, and take advantage of give-away items. They also have stormdrain markers for free.

    DC Greenworks provides full-service design, installation and consulting for Low Impact Development (LID) projects such as rain gardens, greenroofs and rain barrels.
  • DC Water and Sewer Authority
    This site provides an excellent overview of the city’s sewer system and describes plans to improve our treatment facilities and the city’s water quality. They also provide maps of storm drains in the District.
